Freedom Church began in 1996 in Eldersburg, Maryland as a new church plant in the home of its founding pastor. At that time, the church was known as Freedom Christian Church of God, which soon grew to have rented space in the local mall. Eventually, weekend gatherings were moved to rented space in the local high school auditorium in 2011-2012.

In 2012, a local church with 44 acres of property, that had been serving our community since March 1982, felt God was leading them to join with another church, and decided to merge together with Freedom. The four leaders, who made the decision to merge, are still a part of FC today. Shortly after, Freedom Church moved its weekend gathering from the high school in Eldersburg, to its current home across from South Carroll Swim Club, on Old Liberty Road near Taylorsville.

In December of 2016, Mark Sparks left his position as the Youth Pastor of Crosswind Church in Westminster, Maryland, and stepped into his new calling as the current Lead Pastor of FC.
